For the first time ever, cane farmers will receive a bonus payment for their produce. Today, Agriculture and Livestock Development CS Hon Mutahi Kagwe today joined H.E. This milestone has been made possible through the government’s Sugar Reforms, aimed at revitalizing the sugar industry and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The historic issuance of bonuses to Mumias Sugar Company farmers not only validates the success of the government reforms but also amplifies the sugar sector’s potential to uplift farmers and support thousands of livelihoods in our country.
With a record 832,000 tonnes of sugar produced last year, Kenya is on course to attaining surplus production and commence regional exports by 2026 — turning sugarcane cultivation into a viable and rewarding venture

As of the end of last year, Kenya’s monthly sugar production had surpassed the local consumption demand exceeding the local consumption.

The CS underscored the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the sugar sector, particularly in fast tracking the implementation of the Sugar Bill and in subsidizing sugar inputs and ensuring increased allocation of the subsidized fertilizer for sugarcane farmers.
