The Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) has completed preparations for the 57th Central Kenya National Show, which will be held from September 10 to 13 at Kabiru-ini Showground, Nyeri. This year’s theme, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” reflects the growing need to adapt farming practices to climate change while boosting economic resilience.

Over 170 exhibitors from agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, banking, education, and hospitality sectors are expected to take part. Farmers and visitors will benefit from live demonstrations, hands-on training, and expert-led workshops on soil health, water conservation, and crop diversification. The fair will also spotlight new technologies designed to enhance productivity in an era of unpredictable weather patterns.

Patrick Munuhe, Chairman of the Central Kenya ASK Show, said the event is closely aligned with national goals. “We want to support farmers and businesses by showcasing innovations that encourage sustainable growth. The show gives them a chance to connect, share ideas, and explore market opportunities,” he noted.

Nyeri Branch Manager Amos Kirui highlighted the event’s regional draw, pointing out that exhibitors and visitors typically come from Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyandarua, and Kiambu counties. “Last year we had just over 110 exhibitors. This time we expect an even bigger turnout, with more than 80 already confirmed by mid-August,” he said.

Farmers and past participants attest to the show’s impact. Mary Wanjiku, a Nyeri farmer who attended the 2023 edition, said she applied lessons on drought-resistant crops and irrigation methods to boost her yields. Exhibitor John Kamau from a seed company added, “It’s a great platform to meet farmers directly and introduce varieties that work well in today’s changing climate.”

The Central Kenya ASK Show, which began in 1968 and was upgraded to national status in 2004, remains a cornerstone of agricultural development in the region. The Kabiru-ini Showground, conveniently located near Dedan Kimathi University and Nyaribo Airstrip, will also feature entertainment and funfair activities to cater for families.

Tickets are priced at KSh 250 for adults and KSh 200 for children, with discounted rates for groups of 10 or more (KSh 200 and KSh 150 respectively). Tickets can be booked via the ASK website (www.ask.co.ke) or through the Nyeri Branch at nyeri@ask.co.ke and +254 722 212 642.

Organizers say this year’s show will not only celebrate innovation but also contribute to Kenya’s broader climate-smart agriculture agenda, in line with the Agriculture Sector Transformation Growth Strategy. With agriculture accounting for 20 percent of Kenya’s GDP, the ASK Show provides a vital space for solutions to challenges such as erratic rainfall and land degradation.

Security has also been enhanced in partnership with the County Government of Nyeri and national authorities. The four-day event will conclude with an award ceremony recognizing the most outstanding exhibitors.
