Kiambu County has entered into a strategic partnership with the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA) to roll out modern farming technologies aimed at improving productivity and promoting sustainable agriculture.

The agreement, unveiled on Thursday at the Waruhiu Agricultural Training Centre, brings together county officials led by Chief Officer for Crop Production, Irrigation and Marketing Benson Njoroge, and KOPIA Director Dr. Ji Gang Kim.

Central to the collaboration is the establishment of a Model Farm at Waruhiu, which will act as a demonstration ground for modern practices while serving as a training hub for local farmers. Officials say this will help smallholder farmers access practical knowledge to boost yields and minimize post-harvest losses.

Mr. Njoroge underscored the importance of international partnerships in overcoming technology gaps that hinder growth.

“By working with KOPIA, we are opening opportunities for our farmers to learn advanced methods that can improve production and make farming more profitable,” he said.

Dr. Kim noted that KOPIA has played a key role in agricultural transformation in various countries by advancing innovation and research tailored to farmers’ needs.

“Kenya’s dynamic farming sector provides an ideal environment for collaboration, and we look forward to sharing knowledge that can enhance productivity and sustainability,” he added.

The County Government has pledged full support for the initiative, pointing out that local administrators and cooperative leaders will spearhead farmer training and adoption of the new technologies.

Officials believe the partnership will not only strengthen household incomes but also create a smarter, more resilient agricultural sector in Kiambu — a timely boost given the central role agriculture plays in Kenya’s economy.
